What are EIRs?
Hokie alumni as well as other accomplished entrepreneurs and innovators reside in a suite located within the Innovate Living-Learning Community in Pritchard Hall. As EIRs they engage in robust undergraduate programming, both organized and spontaneous, across campus.
Can I bring my spouse?
Your spouse is welcome to accompany you. A background check is necessary for each individual staying in the suite, so please let us know prior to your travel.
What’s in the room?
The newly renovated and air-conditioned EIR suite is equipped with TV, private internet, kitchen, full bath, a queen bed and bedding, desk, couch and chair.
Your room fees and on-campus dining are included during your stay. Please arrange your transportation to campus, and let us know if we can help.
What’s the cost?
There is no cost to be an Entrepreneur-in-Residence, however financial support to sustain the program is appreciated.
What about food?
During your stay, you’ll have a VT dining card, giving you access to some of the best on-campus dining in the country. D2 at Dietrich Hall is the closest dining facility, and many other excellent options are available both on campus and in the town of Blacksburg.
Who can be an Entrepreneur-in-Residence?
This program is designed for business professionals including entrepreneurs, executives, angel and venture capital investors, attorneys and others, who have demonstrated experience in entrepreneurial-related fields. If you are interested, apply here.
Is there a dress code?
We’re a community of entrepreneurs. As such, our culture is casual and comfortable. Feel free to dress to match.
Where can I park?
You’ll receive a short-term parking pass for the duration of your stay, which will enable you to utilize faculty/staff or student parking spaces on campus.
What will my overall visit look like?
Your schedule is ultimately up to you. We understand that you are a busy professional, however we hope you’ll take the opportunity to interact with the students as much as possible during the many student events in Innovate’s programming during the semester. See an example itinerary here.
When will I be teaching?
As part of your stay, it’s expected that you will guest lecture at the Innovate section of our Foundations of Management class. Talk to us about potential topics. Your knowledge and experience is a major asset to the students in the program. The current class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-6:00pm.
Who can I contact if I have a problem during my stay?
We’ll give you our contact information, as well as Innovate’s residential learning coordinator. Reach out to us if there’s anything we can help you with.
Can I bring a pet?
We love animals, just not in our dormitories. Please leave pets at home.
Can I smoke?
There is no smoking within any dormitories or buildings on campus.
